Little Sista Choking on the Orange revision 1

Dear Diary,

My little sista, Sarah Ann set me straight on the orange story. She remembered it much more vividly than I did. Of course it was her life flashing before her eyes not mine. I think if I was going to have to watch reruns of my life I'd rather watch them at age 36 than at age 7 or 8. That way I could view some of my life in the fast lane times instead of just the riding bikes and playing with dolls memories.

Grab a drink and a snack, this is going to be a first hand account of the trauma, told second hand.

We were not on one of our Sunday drives. We were actually coming back from Birmingham, Alabama. We had visited our Grandmother for the weekend. I'm not clear on which sista told the story that had us all laughing when Sarah Ann started to choke on the orange. As I said earlier, we all laughed at her, thinking how funny she looked, but then (these are her words) she started throwing her body against our oldest sista Lucy because she was struggling to breath and her life was virtually passing before her! Lucy realized that this was nothing to laugh about and that she was actually choking. She yelled to Daddy to pull over, our precious baby sista was choking and he said he would when we got to Tuscaloosa. Lucy then proceeded to hit her on the back which made her cough up that orange. If either of you other sistas have versions of this story please let me know. Sarah Ann reminded me of the story we were telling and it is a good one. I'll have to find a picture to accompany it and I'll post it later.

I love the picture that you have used at the beginning of this post, it made me smile!
Apparently when I was about 3 years old I was choking on a hard sweet (candy)My mother picked me up, help me by the ankles and shook me. I have never recovered lol My thinking has always been a tad upside down hehehe.

Oh, Lisa. You are such a good story teller. You crack me up (at your sister's expense I guess- poor thing)! The funniest part was your dad wanting to wait to pull over - such a typical dad on a long drive! I loved both versions of the story.

Ah, the days before seat belts and before we became too busy for Sunday drives. My family used to do the same thing. If it was a long trip, I'd sleep on the floor behind the front seat and my brother got the whole back seat to stretch out. Even after an incident when my mom got caught up in our fighting and missed the train she was about to run into, hitting the brakes at the last second and had me flying from the back seat into the windshield, we did not have enough sense to use seat belts. It took a roll over accident with a friend driving on a gravel road with me ending up in the hospital to finally get a clue and start using my seat belt before it was the law. I digress. I was just thinking of how far we've come. My kids find it hard to believe not only did we not wear seat belts but my dad would smoke in the car with the windows rolled up. The hardest thing for them to grasp are 8 track tapes - you used to get a free one with the Oldsmobile station wagons my family bought!

Love the suitcase and getting to read your diary!
